I’m from Vietnam, and I moved to Finland three years ago. First I came to study logistics and supply-change management, but then I switched to study digital marketing. I currently live in Helsinki and work as a junior growth hacker.
People always ask me why Finland – that must be the most common question I get! When I was still living in Vietnam, my friend from the university told me about Finland and the Finnish education system. I didn’t know anything about Finland before that, but then I really got curious to see what Finland is like.
I was studying accounting in Vietnam, but I felt it wasn’t really my thing, so I decided to go with the flow and apply to an education program in Finland – and so I moved here, just out of plain curiosity!
I got my first tattoo two years ago when I was still living in Turku. My friend and I got tattooed on the same day. The tattooist was a Nepalese guy, and I’m not sure whether he even lives in Turku anymore. I wanted to have this text tattoo to motivate me whenever I need it.
My friend and I used to be very close. Nowadays we have kind of like split up but still, this tattoo reminds me of good things. After all, we were very close back then, and when I got this tattoo, I didn’t know our friendship would end someday. Even though we’re no longer in contact, I want to cherish the good memories.
The cactus is by the same tattooist than the first one. I got it in October 2017.
I always have three cactuses in my room. They are those small cactuses you can buy from Ikea. There’s no special reason for the number – they just sell them in sets of three, that’s all! I don’t know why, but it’s important for me to always put all the cactuses together. I think it would be sad if there was only one plant standing alone.
Somehow, I can relate to cactuses. They are strong and keep growing even if you don’t water them or take good care about them. This tattoo reminds me to be strong like cactus and constantly keep growing, no matter what the circumstances would be. Of course, I relate especially to small cactuses, since I’m quite small, too!
I got my third tattoo in Vietnam. It’s also a kind of a friend tattoo, since I got in on the same day as my best friend.
Each button in this tattoo has its own specific meaning. The red button reminds me that whenever I’m in pain, I have to do something to stop it. The replay means replaying and rotating happiness. The pause button reminds me to focus on the present. The fast forward means that I have to keep going forward. That’s also why I didn’t want to put any backward button here at all, so now there’s only the option to go forward and never look back. And the play button – well, it just happens to make sense to have it here!
I currently have one tattoo idea that I’m going to carry out in the near future. I’m a Harry Potter fan, so my next tattoo will be related to that theme. Lately I’ve felt a bit lost, and the tattoo will be something that will help me to light up my way – to stop being lost and focus on the moment instead.
In general, I like small and compact tattoos. I enjoy minimalistic and graphic style. It’s important for me that I only have tattoos with a positive meaning. Tattoos that say “trust no-one” or anything like that are really not my thing.
