My first tattoo was made when I was 18 or 19 years old. I wanted to get my first tattoo on a place where it could be easily hidden, so I got it on my shoulder blade. During the years, the tattoo has been fixed twice. At first, it was just black and grey, but later I wanted to add some colors there as well. The fairy is originally designed by my cousin.

Although I had been dreaming of tattoos for many years, I think it’s good that I didn’t get my first tattoo until I was old enough. At that point, tribal tattoos had already gotten out of fashion. If I had got the tattoo when I was still a teenager, I probably would have just ended up having a basic tribal tattoo on my lower back or something like that!

I’ve gathered most of my tattoos during the last two years. I’m a bit impatient person, and I guess you can see it in the way I plan my tattoos. When a good idea pops into my mind, I book the appointment first and then start gathering money for the tattoo.

My rose tattoo is dedicated to my family. There’s a letter beside every rose, and each letter represents one of my family members. I wanted to include the initials to the tattoo so that they would go smoothly together with the roses instead of standing out from the design. The tattoo is made by Terhi from the tattoo studio Shaman Arts. She is my favorite tattoo artist nowadays, and most of my tattoos are her artwork.

The roses themselves don’t have a deep meaning, I just felt they were a natural choice for this theme. My family appreciates this tattoo, even though my mom was pretty shocked at first when she saw the size of this tattoo. But she loves it though! Mom also has a tattoo made by Terhi. It’s a rose tattoo with the initials of my brother and me.

I got my tree of life-tattoo on quite a short notice. A couple of years ago I saw an advertisement of a walk-in day arranged by a local tattoo parlor that doesn’t even exist anymore. The idea of a life tree-tattoo had crossed my mind a time or two, and I figured this might be a good opportunity to get it at last. The previous night before the walk-in, I collected some random images from the Internet and made my own version of the tree on my smartphone.

The top hat tattoo is a charity tattoo. In 2017, the local tattoo parlor LuckyAki’s Full Throttle Shop arranged a charity campaign where they tattooed this small top hat design on people’s skin. The bottom price for the tattoo was 30 euros, and customers decided themselves how much extra they would give. The profits were then donated to support children and young.

With this tattoo, I was able to support an important matter. This tattoo was made by Raudus who works at Aki’s parlor as well.

The deathly hallows and Death Star are linked to my own interests. Death Star is my newest tattoo, I got it this summer. These tattoos are also Terhi’s artwork.

I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was a kid. I can still remember the times we were on a summer cottage with my family. There I spent lots of time watching Star Wars movies on tv. As the parts 1–3 were published some years later, I went to see them in a movie theater with my brother.

I still love the movies – even the newer ones! Anakin Skywalker is absolutely my favorite character. He’s so great, even though he might occasionally commit an evil crime or two… But hey, nobody’s perfect!

I think the greatest thing in Anakin’s character is the fact that he’s a good person in essence. In the end, he is driven by love, even though he tends to do everything in a wrong way.

I used to read a lot when I was younger, and Harry Potter was of course an important thing for me back then. A year ago, I also visited Harry Potter studios in London. It was a great experience, although I’m not a huge fan of the movie adaptations. The books are more my thing.

I’ve always been interested in fantasy novels and movies in general. Besides the Potter series, I also love Robin Hobb’s and Terry Pratchett’s novels.

The quill tattoo includes blue ink.

I love color tattoos, and I find especially watercolor tattoos very beautiful. That’s why I chose my current tattoo artist in the first place, as I had seen pictures of her watercolor tattoos and other artwork on the internet. Nowadays I couldn’t even imagine getting a tattoo from some other tattoo artist. It’s so easy to co-operate with her: when I give her an idea, she can always turn it into something more amazing than I had even dreamed of.

The most painful place to tattoo was my calf. This tattoo was made in three parts, and the tattooing of the first part was quite a shock, to be honest! I didn’t realize calf could be such a painful place for a tattoo. I had toothmarks on my hand after the first session, as I had been biting my hand during the tattooing. The following sessions were less shocking though, as I already knew it was going to hurt.

The idea of the calf tattoo is based on my astrological sign, Pisces. I had been thinking about tattooing my zodiac sign, and originally, I was just planning on getting a couple of fish on my skin or something like that. Then the idea somehow expanded, and finally, the design included mermaids and some other things, too. There’s still the Pisces sign hidden in the tattoo, though!

Can you find the zodiac sign?

So far, I’ve mostly wanted to focus on filling my other arm. After this is ready, I can start filling some other place instead. I’ve been dreaming of getting a chest piece with some lace, jewelry and floral themes in it. At least I wouldn’t have to use any necklace after getting a permanent jewel!

Even though I wanted my first tattoo to be quite unnoticeable, nowadays I prefer getting tattoos in visible places. The visible tattoos are above all meant for myself. If I invest lots of money in getting beautiful artwork on my skin, why would I want to hide it from myself? Before all, my tattoos are a part of my own style. With tattoos, I can be myself more than I would be without them.
